Influence of Climate Change and Land-Use Alteration on Water Resources in Multan, Pakistan

This study presents an evaluation of climate and land-use changes induced impacts on water resources Multan City, Pakistan. Statistical Down Scaling Model (SDSM) Geographical Information System (GIS) are used for change scenario spatial analyses. Hydrologic Engineering Center’s Hydraulic Modeling (HEC-HMS) model is rainfall-runoff simulation. The investigated results show significant in climatological parameters, i.e., increase temperature decrease precipitation over the last 40 years, a urban expansion also observed from 2000 to 2020. urbanization has reduced infiltration rate into soil increased runoff flows. HEC-HMS indicate that surface gradually two decades. Consequently, depth table shallow aquifer declined by about 0.3 m/year. Projected indices stipulate groundwater depletion will occur future. Arsenic levels have exceeded permissible limit owing unplanned open dumping industrial effluents. can help efficient management Multan.
